This is the clip I chose from the first episode of the second season of Empire:
I think that this clip loosely follows Propp’s character theory. I think Lucious plays the false hero since he acts quite vulnerable at the start of the scene. However, he is in fact the villain, since he orders the other inmates of the prison to kill Frank (Chris Rock's character). This scene can also be applied to Todorov's equilibrium since the scene starts off at disequilibrium because Lucious has a problem (Frank) but once he had ensured this character's death, he found himself in new equilibrium.
Roland Barthes' enigma and action codes both apply to this clip. The initial 'kill him' said by Chris Rock’s character, is an enigma code as it misleads the viewers as to what will happen next. Therefore, they will be trying to figure out what is really happening. This is also an action code because those words obviously connote that someone is going to die.
This film extract taken from Men In Black 3 shows some input of Propp's character theory as Will Smith is the hero, Agent Kay is the donor or the helper, Boris is the villain and Griffin is the 'princess' as he has been kidnapped by the villain. Again, this clip contains a disequilibrium as someone has been kidnapped and others are trying to prevent this.
An enigma code in this clip is 'what is he going to take out of his car'
